Arthur's Monolith

Description

balsawood, tissue with paint, metal (nails on bottom of monolith), glue, painted tree branch.

This was inspired by Kubrick's 2001 film & it's enigmatic alien "monolith"....
when he & genius scientist/writer Arthur C. Clarke worked on the film together, Clarke pulled a little mathemetical fun by making the monoliths (at least in the book) all conform to the exact ratio of 1 by 4 by 9 and so I made this wood & tissue monolith to those same proportions, only much smaller;)

Kubrick was a genius.... he was originally gonna make the Pinnochio meets Bladerunner type film called "A.I." but he felt it would have the right tough if it had that warm fuzzy feeling that Speilberg is so good at, especially since Spielberg is so fascinated with little kids & adventures---
so a number of years before he died,
Kubrick gave the project/script to Spielberg & it became one of the best films of Spielberg's career... if u watch till after the last of the credits that roll at the end of the film, you'll see a line that gives the films tribute to Kubrick.
